9 Wedding Trends We Saw In 2010

by New York Food Company February 4, 2011

Vintage

he “something old” really made a statement this year with retro chic details and stylish antique embellishments

Comfort Foods

NYFC fav’s in 2010 included the Kobe Sliders, gorgeous assorted dessert displays and delicious late night bites like tray passed chocolate chip cookies and milk shots.

Alternative Brides Maids Dresses

Now geared more towards individual style – 2010 showed us a plethora of unique bridesmaid dress collections whether they were patterned or all a different design or shade

Do It Yourself

This was all the rave in 2010 with Brides taking a very organic approach to their Weddings – Everything from the invites, escort cards, centerpieces and programs to the flower arrangements, decorations and other details, it seems everyone has become their own version of Martha Stewart. NYFC loves the creativity and unique flair DIY brings to the table and our team is excited to help you with ideas and assistance along the way!

Personalized Touches

Weddings in 2010 were “statement events” – we are seeing less of the Classical take on Weddings as Brides and Grooms are showing more of who they are and where they come from with unique details and characteristics.

The Social Network

Bringing the event into the living room of those who could not make it – NYFC skyped events to friends and family across the globe so that they could watch the day unravel from the comfort of their home and not feel left out from the event.

Eco-Friendly approaches

2010 was infamous for recycle, reuse, reduce. Printing invites, place-cards, programs, menus etc on recycled paper, using less flowers by transferring them from the ceremony to the reception site, incorporating charities into the post event left-overs (donating flowers or left-over food to a charitable organization – donating the wedding dress to someone in need or simply making sure the recyclable items are properly discarded rather than thrown out) were all ever so popular this year.

Funny vs. Serious Photography

Humor mixed in with that retro straight-faced façade were popular for 2010 — incorporating fun and quirky details into photos made for fabulous memories!

Edible or intangible favors

Candy Stations, Sweets or Fancy Dessert Displays add a dash of fun for guests and won’t be left behind. Another alternative to your typical wedding favors is a donation towards a charity given by the Bride and Groom. An example would be to the Live Strong Foundation – each guest would receive a bracelet and card stating the donation was made as a gesture of gratitude for their presence.

Using a wire letter frame, a little hot glue, pearl beading and Ribbon you can create your own ‘His and Hers’ Initials for the last chair of the aisle. This not only illustrates which side is the brides and which is the grooms but also adds another personalized touch to the Ceremony site. A gorgeous Flower ball accompanies this gorgeous monogrammed chair hanger and really creates a beautiful aisle entrance.
