The Cake Cut

by Roxy - La Venta Wedding Planner February 4, 2010

In a traditional American wedding, the bride and groom cut the first piece together.  This is a great photo op.   The bride places her left hand over the groom’s hand (so you can see her ring a.k.a. – “bling”), and they cut the slice together from the bottom tier. Once a small triangular wedge is cut, the bride then takes the cake server and works together with her husband who is still holding the knife on working that piece out and onto a small plate.  Some say that this is the first task that they will need to accomplish together as husband and wife.  They share this first slice by feeding it to each other…  Or sometimes smearing it on each others' faces. Smile

The photographer will probably cue them on where to stand for the pictures while cutting the cake and feeding each other.

These photos were taken by John & Max Mills (www.millsphotography.com).

This was one of my favorite couples.  The bride was the sweetest most genuine person I think I have ever encountered!  And they made the perfect cake-cutting models.

Indoor Ceremony

by Tim - La Venta Event Planner January 29, 2010
Although very rare, every now and again La Venta Inn will host a wedding inside its beautiful ballroom, usually due to inclement weather.  This indoor wedding happened to take place on a beautiful day only because the bride and groom really loved the setting of their nuptials in front of our spacious fireplace.

White Dove Release Ceremony

by Tim - La Venta Event Planner January 29, 2010

Doves choose one partner for life and make this commitment until death. The white dove has been used throughout history as a symbol of Love, Peace, Purity, Faithfulness and Prosperity. It is said that if doves are seen on your wedding day, a happy home is assured. These birds released here today represent the love and commitment you have given to one another. From this day forward, when ever you see a white dove, may you be reminded of this special moment"

Pictured below is a Rose Ceremony. The rose presentation can be done many different ways, but is usually done at the beginning of the wedding ceremony after the presentation of the bride. Both the bride and groom, together give a rose to each mother. The symbolism is a joining of two unique families who stood separate until this moment.

Dove Release & Tea Ceremony

by July 13, 2009

Yen Li and Peter Han had a warm reception at La Venta Inn on June 14, 2009. Along with many other fun and festive formalities, the couple put together a Chinese tea ceremony for their parents.  Yen and Peter also concluded the tea ceremony with a white dove release.

Chinese Tea Ceremony

The order of the Chinese tea service is usually the following:

  1. parents,
  2. grandparents,
  3. grand-uncles and grand-aunties,
  4. uncles and aunties,
  5. elder brothers and sisters,
  6. elder cousins
However, some families prefer to serve the grandparents before the parents. Within each generation, dad's relatives are served before mom's relatives. It is important to address your relatives correctly!
